Posted - 30 Nov 2017 : 19:29:33 I bought a Norman 20 something as a project to give me something to do in old age. The front windows leak badly. Very unusual! Simply replace the rubbers. Simple. Windows and rubbers removed with ease. BUT! The skins around the windows have separated meaning a rubber would have to accommodate a window surround from 6 to 10 mm.thick. In addition a previous owner, no doubt a bodger like me, has tried to rivet the two skins together. Also the corners have a radius of 5cm. where as Seals Direct rubbers have a minimum radius of 10cm. Any helpful comment would be appreciated. I add some picture to help. bottom lhs

I think the first thing to do is stick the two skins together. Any suggestions about a glue? Sorry to go on for so long.

Posted - 02 Dec 2017 : 12:35:57 I really do appreciate your help. I think I have sorted out the pictures, thanks again. I have seen your blog on a solid roof and hope one day to do the same. For now glue up the windows. Thanks reg |

I had the same problem, I "pop" riveted the two skins together. Quite how Norman solved the problem 40 years ago is beyond me, a bit of an arcane art window glazing. This was on a Norman 18.5, the model that had like yours rubber set windows so an early model. Later models had aluminium windows bolted in over mastic.
I never tried it but if you can use 'G' cramps and a batten inside and out I suggest to clamp the two skins together over a bead of Sikaflex because that sticks things very well, so well that we always say never use it on anything you later want to take apart.
I bonded a white oak wheelhouse onto a Norman coach roof because the moulding was too flimsy for the point loading of screws. I swear you could have picked the boat up with that wheelhouse! I used Polyflex HM which is about as good as the much more expensive Sikaflax 291i.
Alternatively, Evo-stik Sticks Like **** is cheaper, available in builder's merchants, and according to PBO tests gives a strong bond.http://www.pbo.co.uk/gear/which-adhesive-sealant-is-best-20877

Finally living the dream!
