We have bought a Norman 22 called 'Baby Ducks' and are looking forward to the challenge of returning her back to a lovely boat. We need to replace the perspects windows for glass ones in the front and the left sliding window to enjoy the view as we travel. Also the hatch opening is good but the wooden surround is rotten. Does anyone have any of these available? Thanks

Perspex (acrylic is the material-perspex is a trade name) is ok but uv stabilised polycarbonate is better as it's less likely to shatter and doesn't yellow in the sun so much, you can't beat glass for cockpit windscreen though as it's much easier to see through and a wiper will soon wreck any plastic material.

A friend said just replace with perspects for now with new rubbers to keep the cost down? |

Laminated glass or toughend should not really be that expensive I have worked in the flat glass trade nearly all my life. Make templates out of ply wood.they normal around 30% extra for shaped pieces bent or concave is a different thing very expensive.try and find a large company like st gobain or similar. Rember toughed glass can't be cut so check your measurements.

He means them old metal sewer tubes that some consider as boats, the ones that consider them as 'traditional' canal boats despite being welded together with not a rivet in sight and no sign of a cargo hold or horse to pull it.
AKA the rosy & jim brigade.

Thanks for your comments, we expect to have to pay a little for a 1970's boat. I am sure the forum will come in very handy for us novice boaters! |

Boating involves either a lot of DIY or throwing lots of money at folk who can do this for you! The woodwork you will have to renew yourself.
The windows you can get done but at a cost! These people made original Norman windows and can still do this or refurbish yours. Its not cheap!

You will have to have glass windows made like I did for my 32. Get them measured and get a glass company to make in laminated glass. |
