Hi all, Cruising through the web as you do when the wife is watching soaps i visited Gumtree and clicked on Boats last week. This one caught my eye. 33' 4 berth cruiser. radar auto pilot depth finder etc satellite phone + 3 flat screen tv's blah blah. Urgent sale £5900.Powered by 2x 360 hp mercruiser v8 petrol engines. I know it is daft money because it does about 1 mpg, but surely it would get more than that sold in bits. Next advert down was a similar spec but different boat for the same amount. Not on now which does not supprise me. Anyway all the very best and thank you for any help i needed in the past and no doubt in the future. Regards Phil Hunt. ps i get into bother with a 15 hp Honda.

Probably right Clive. The 1 mpg i quoted was my guess and not part of the advert, It probably got that in the marina--- just.

Cheap because old, expensive, and petrol-engined. No one wants big old boats, apart from fuel costs (and whether you'd actually get 1mpg with two V8's is moot)the maintenance is horribly expensive and moorings mostly with other gin palaces only are costed to reflect the shiny neighbours.

Some time back we were looking to buy a Moonraker 36, but nearly 10 gallons per hour at cruising speed and bunkering of almost 200 gallons to fill the tanks put us off - and you don't even want to think about consumption at WOT (Wide Open Throttle). We bought an Ocean 30 instead that had Thorneycroft "chuggy" power and was cheap to run.

Finally living the dream!

Earlier this year I don't think I was doing much better than 1mpg at full throttle and that is on diesels and not going that fast, should be better now I've ditched the jersey keel and had the props refurbed (I hope!!!!).
