Posted - 16 Aug 2016 : 11:02:15 Following on from my earlier post I'm almost ready to begin my project. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get hold of the build/design specs for a 23, mid to late 70's... I'm interested in the weight of the top and thickness of the hull.
There were several comments offered in reply to my earlier post that have made me rethink some of my plans (thanks to those commenters!) I'll now be using a lighter timber frame, lighter ply skin at 9mm and then giving the whole a fibreglass covering finished with gel/flowcoat.
Thanks in advance... |

Posted - 17 Aug 2016 : 20:53:56 I'm beginning now to discover the variables and how much of a task lies ahead of me! I have the inboard with Enfield drive version... Looks like I'll be learning as I go. I'll be posting results along with images and maybe some footage as I make discoveries.

The thing with normans is they were sold as anything from a fully built sail away boat to kit build to bare hull with inboard and outboard options on all hulls with most inboards using enfield outdrives (I think except the later wide beams).

Posted - 16 Aug 2016 : 15:41:34 I was beginning to fear that might be the case when I could find nothing at all online... Looks like I'll have to guess it then.
Thanks for the reply! :)

I very much doubt such specs exist, there may be an approx weight of complete hull/superstructure on a kit build brochure somewhere though. As for thickness they probably all vary wildly, I think normans were a make it up as you go along sort of design. When I had the windows out of my old 25 the grp thickness varied from around 3mm to 8mm just along the length of one window.
