I've bought some flow coat, but just wondering how long it takes to cure. Today is a good day but due to rain in 8 hours. Wondering if I could get first layer on now?

I know, a few had said that, but the Hull is painted and I'm desperately trying to keep everything above the hull in its original gel coat, so I'm gonna try and repair it first, then if all else fails paint it will be.

Fill first as flow coat isn't that thick, not sure flowcoat is the bast thing to use for the sides of the boat may be better with paint once filled.

I didn't get round to doing it today, but will hopefully tomorrow., I've got several 50p sized dinks in Bertie's sides. (The 3inch strip of fibre glass between the deck tread and the black rubber bumper bar surrounding strip) There is 4 dinks to be precise, each one is about 5mm deep. Will one coat of flow coat be thick enough or should I fill 'em in with some filler first?

Too late to add this for today but the cure time is determined by ambient temperature (hotter = quicker) and by the amount of catalyst you add (more = quicker). Your supplier will give you the numbers. Aim for about 20 minutes, assuming you can get the job done in that time. The stuff I've used was 2% catalyst @ 20 deg C for about 20 minutes working time. Don't work below about 15 deg C.
And as Dave says, flowcoat is intended a one coat only thing. Get it on briskly and neatly then leave it alone for at least a day. |

With flowcoat you can't put one coat over another without washing well to remove the wax covering it will have and sanding back well, the main difference between flowcoat and layup resin is the added wax (obviously thicker and pigmented as well)that rises to the surface to block the air off so it cures fully, so flowcoat straight over flowcoat will fall off.
But to answer the original question once it starts to cure rain shouldn't realy bother it, a big temperature drop might though.
