Has anyone ever fitted a rudder safe bolt on ruder extension they are not cheap but from what I've red sounds great stops snaking at slow speeds giving u more control and manoeuvrability even says saves fuel

Thanks for the info, I may tilt it and get in the canal with my waders on and fit it that way. If anyone knows a good outboard mechanic in the midlands area who does outcalls please let me know.

I did ours when it was lifted out for winter. I ended up drilling a hole through the leg to secure the rudder with a bolt as the clamp/strap things just would not fit securely enough. Obviously I was careful to avoid anything important with the drill |

I just tilted my motor up and fitted the rudder while lying on the jetty. It took me about 1/2 hour including the time spent explaining to my better half what I was doing and why I was doing it.
I tied the spanner to my wrist with a piece of string as usual.

Can you fit a rudder extension to a Honda outboard without taking it off? I find my 15hp honda outboard is too heavy to lift off on my own? Can everyone else do lift it off on their own?

I had a Wavey Rider Wanderer with a 7.5hp Honda outboard. The rudder extension certainly helped at low speed / no power manoevering. |

Fitted one on my 27 with a honda 15 outboard. £35, fixed in 10 mins and makes a big difference, eg you can steer in neutral when mooring etc.Also if you reverse into something solid the rudder extension takes the hit not the prop.

I have fitted a rudder extension on my Honda outboard, also I moved the motor I hole back from vertical which lifts the bow out of the water I can now let go of the wheel and my boat goes straight, I have a Norman twenty hope this helps |

Yeah, likewise on the 23 we had. At slow canal/river speeds it made a huge difference to steering, especially when coasting into a mooring or lock.
I think it's a different story at higher speeds, but I wouldn't know about that ;p

I fitted one to the Honda on my 23.
I was impressed with the difference it made.It cost me £40, but they're easy to make.
