Now about at the timber stage. What's the best thing to seal treated pine beams to prevent water ingress/ absorption?

Thanks guys. Yes Clive, I'm laying down beams to support the internal deck. But judging by the weather, I think I'd best invest in a canopy before I start on the woodwork.

You can do clever things with Bonda Wood hardener.... Give it a coat and let it dry before you use any varnish..... it absorbs into the wood and seals it against any moisture. It saves you about 3 coats on your varnish too....!!!!

Multiple coats of varnish, thinned down and working less thinner each coat. 5 coats should do it, flatted off between coats. I assume this is all interior work using softwood?

Finally living the dream!
