Hi all, I'm in the process of refurbishing my Norman 20 windows and need to replace some of the window screws and rivnuts. I would like to get some identical ones, and have ordered all sorts of metric and imperial machine screws, but I'm yet to find an exact match.
Does anyone know the exact description / spec of these screws?

Yup cliveshep, 'tis me in the bin liner on the start line of a 'Mudmaster race' last year. I try and keep the fancy dress to a minimum when I'm working at the boat yard lol

Anyway - I'm sure you know by now that ANY ferrous fastenings are a no-no on a boat, even if galvanised/zinc-plated.
The screws you need are called Interscrews, Sheridan Marine do them, take a look at this search page for other UK suppliers, a bit of a niche market I'm afraid.

HI knighty, yes I didn't buy these, I was just told that these were the size I needed which is why I put the photo up for Simon. i actually ended up buying silicone bronze ones for mine. (Boat next to me had them in and i thought they looked a bit funky lol)

I would be inclined to find stainless ones if the size is right. Zinc plated is just a plating over steel and in a boat environment can still corrode. |

I took the long side window out of my Norman 23 last week and have been having the same problem. I had to drill a few out so I needed to replace those plus I've seen a boat with 'silicone copper' ones and thought they looked kinda cool, but to replace them I needed to determine the size of the originals. I took them into an ironmongers and was handed these which happen to be identical. Not sure if your 20 will have the same ones.

The originals would have been imperial. What I did on my 32 was use stainless 40 x 5mm countersunk socket head bolts. And counter sink the holes in the windows. Where the 2 halves of the frames were bolted together I re tapped to 5mm. then cut the bolts to length. When I fitted the windows in I tightened all the bolts then cut off the thread sticking through the nuts. One at a time I replaced the nuts with dome heads. |
