Hi, I can't see a kill switch anywhere. How do you normally stop the old outboards?

I've got a 100. Very reliable little engine, but damn our one is noisy. Hopefully going to sell it, and our little Honda 5hp and get a bigger, quieter engine this year. One with electric start (as I've been told you can't fit electric start to the 100). |

haha, I found it.
It was the big black button right in front of me . . .doh lol.
I was told it had an electric start that didn't work, so just assumed that was it lol.
(I'm blonde and female, what can i say!)
Honda 100 wasn't would start but not idle. I bought another mixture screw (old one was missing) cleaned out carb, still wouldn't start. Spent all day pulling on that flipping pull start (have a large right bicep to prove it) its taken me two days of pulling and taking carb on and off to work out that the float was sticking and needle not seating well so the carb was flooding. A slight adjustment to needle spring and voilla!!! She's now purring like a kitten. Just thought I'd put this up because I saw quite a few fellas were having this problem.

Pulling the choke fully out should stop it fairly quickly. Not recommended for long term fix, tho'.

On 'really' old outboards you turn off the fuel... that usually does it!! A seasoned pro will know exactly when to turn it off so that the engine coughs it's last as you touch the mooring!!!
Its reasonably good practice to do that anyway as it leaves the float bowl in the carb dry, otherwise over time the petrol vaporises and leaves a sticky residue that will cause slow running problems.

I believe a button or ignition key breaks the supply to the ignition unit hence it stops.
In electronic ignition system, kill circuit also grounds the primary circuit.
