I'm taking my Norman 20 out of the water over winter so I can do a refurb job, antifoul etc.

I'm not as agile as I used to be and getting on-board and off can be awkward (please bare in mind this is my first boat and I'm a complete novice).

My boat is moored on a lake and when I'm getting aboard I do so from the stern and trust me it looks like something off a 'some mothers do av em' sketch.

I was considering putting some steps on the stern on one side of the outboard to make it easier to get on board or a small sundeck either side of the outboard. I'm no lightweight (about 15 stone)I was wondering if any of you guys could suggest:

1) best steps, sundeck
2) easiest way to get on and off

I haven't fallen into the lake yet but my daughter always has her phone at the ready to capture the moment when I do. Obviously I'd post that event on here

Thanks
Colin

I had the same problem on my Ocean 30 - it's a long way up from a bobbing tender, and I got one of those aluminium and plastic boarding ladders that hook over the cockpit coaming, actually I made a couple of sockets for the ends to sit in that were bolted to the deck because the cockpit coaming is some distance away from the side of the hull on the Ocean. They are very light and the hooked arms fold in flat for stowage.

On my Norman 20' years ago I had a folding stainless boarding ladder bolted to the transom, the lower half hinged was un-hooked and dropped below the water making it easy to get onto the bottom rung from the water or the dinghy. More expensive but a very neat and tidy solution always there. However, that boat had a sterndrive so more room to the side for a bolted ladder.

Finally living the dream!
