I have been told the hull on the norman 27ft and the 31 ft is a lot thicker fiberglass as the boats where made for the inland waterways but ar the smaller 23ft the same

Early normans were built like brick outhouses, the later ones were much thinner, it's the same with most makes as the technology of grp was an unknown back then, now it's known you can get away with much less in normal use but in an impact the old ones will do much better.

Hi, We have a n23 and as Binker says you hit a lot of debri on the canal/rivers, we always watch well in front for objects in the water..but some you cannot avoid or miss, the norman boats seem to be well contstructed and ours is 34 years old with no contact scars. don't forget we are sailing through the water..so glance off objects

Hi, I'm fairly new on this forum but if it's any use to you our 23 was on the Rochdale canal round Failsworth way this summer and demolished it's fair share of shopping trolleys that we could't avoid.
As a rank beginner I've also had my quota of bumps to the hull when mooring - the old girl was very forgiving in an indulgent, elderly aunt, "You Scamp!" kind of way.
