Hi,it is a while since I have been on here. We have been having problems with the starter motor on our BMC 1.5 engine. I am trying to source a replacement, but the part number on the case doesn't come up on Lucas lists. A friend of mine who is an auto electrician and he can't find it listed in his books and he worked for Lucas for 20 years! Any ideas for a replacement.

It's often the solenoid on the side thats the problem not the starter itself, the contacts in the top cover burn out and the the worse they get the faster they burn, good news is you can buy a replacement cover with contact bar for them quite cheaply.
I had to do it for my old 2.5 bmc's, it was a fairly easy repair to do.
