Can any one give me an idea as to what would be the best covering ie carpet/paint to recover my dilapidated norman 23 original cabin ceiling and what would be the best way to do this?

Here's the almost finished headlining. Just need a little tweak to the trim and fit the last light. Very happy with it for my first effort

Exactly where I got the vinyl, glue and all extras from Dean. I have also gone for the 'T' section edging they do.
Going up to the boat next weekend to fit it all. Will take some pics and post here once done.

Foam backed vinyl on panels is the best quality finish and looks totally pro.

Van lining carpet is easy to use. You must stick with a contact adhesive. Make sure you have plenty of ventilation when you do it and no naked flames.
Something like this.

I've just finished covering the new boards I made using the old ones as a template. I've used foam backed vinyl on 4mm WBP ply. I also painted the back of the boards that will secure to the fibreglass with outdoor gloss, I was told it would protect the panels as water won't soak in due to the oil in the gloss.
Here are 2 pics of the front and back of a panel. It's not a hard job but peeling the foam off the vinyl to fold around the edge and on to the back does get your fingertips eventually. I had 8 panels to do.
Also when glueing make sure the area is very well ventilated, the contact adhesive isn't too bad but the stuff used to glue the vinyl to the back of the panel is very potent.
