Posted - 04 Feb 2015 : 09:15:16 Hi I have removed a number of bulkheads during my N22 rebuild. I did the first with an angle grinder to cut the fibreglass tabbing that held them in place. (Take care to cut flat and not to dig into the hull, you do not want to create a hole!!) It worked okay but created a fearful mess, I was still clearing up the white dust 9m later. My preferred tool now is my Bosch Multi-Cutter, either with some cheap general purpose blades (e.g. Screw fix) or with the abrasive cutter (gold coloured) which is designed for materials like fibreglass which quickly blunt a steel blade. Because of the way this tool works it is easier to cut parallel to the boat side and it creates much less of a snow-storm of dust. Peter

Posted - 30 Jan 2015 : 21:03:41 Our 23 had the bulkhead removed years ago with no noticeable weakness but about a 2" strip of bulkhead was retained all round just to cover the join. best regards sonny |
