We have a bit of a water supply problem. We were down at the boat yesterday (Friday 31st). Filled up the water tank which is under the lockers in the bow. Turned the tap on to fill the kettle to make a brew and no water. The pump appears to be working fine. If I attach a piece of hose to the tap I can suck/syphon water through the system but when I stop the flow stops. I've checked all the hoses and can't find any leaks. HELP!!!!

Check what sort of pump you have, some have a tap that is nothing more than a switch in disguise which switches the pump directly, others have proper taps and the pump is switched by the drop in pressure, if you hear the pump running when you turn the tap and not when turned off I would guess at the first system, the second system would be a good upgrade while you are replacing stuff, albeit more expensive to do.
The first system tends to use a cheap inline pump, the second usually uses a much better diaphram pump and will have a pressure swith built in.
Local swindlers or online, asap supplies are good.

Thanks for that Knighty. I'll check it next time we are there. If that is the case, can you suggest a reliable place to purchase a new pump?

I would double check the pump, if you can draw water through and the pump motor is running I would guess at pump internal failure, think they have an internal diaphragm on some so may hear the motor running but not pumping. |
