This question is sort of related to boats, but I know there is a wealth of knowledge on this forum!
I use a generator for power-tools and pressure washer etc for my boat and transport it in a metal trailer. I leave it in the trailer when in use. There is an earthing terminal on the genny, and I usually connect a wire to it, connected to a metal spike I drive into the ground. Should I also connect the trailer to earth? I also use a plug-in RCD ... will that be functional?

On the subject of power tools, I fell off my deck into the river a few weeks ago, and was holding my DeWalt 18volt Drill (luckily not my 240v one!) It stayed immersed for 48 hours before I could get it out, but after rinsing in clean water, opening up the battery to drain off lots of water, and leaving in the sun for a day, it was fine.. and so was I!

Take advice from your local electrician on this
you may be setting up fault return path through earth by spiking
the generator.
generators use floating earths and neutrals which can
lead to electrocution if compromised in the event
of a fault
