Hi all I'm looking at getting 2new batteries for my 27 I have a 1.8 engine, I have been told to look for ones that have a high Deep-Cycle , I don't want to buy cheap and end up buying twice any help of which to go for ???
Also I need my Zdrive serviced any one know some one near the River Nene ?? And will it have to come out of the water for a service ??

I just have two 110aph leisure batteries for the domestic loads and an ordinary car battery to start the yanmar twin pot diesel engine |

At 1.8 I'm assuming ford xld which don't take the cranking big marine diesels do and start better than old school marine diesels do, theres some carbon fibre batteries about that do both quite well for lower starting loads and weigh less (still lead/acid but have carbon fibre strands through the plates) but a good regular leisure battery of 110Ah or more will probably not suffer too badly starting the engine as long as you don't go OTT with the pre-heat.

In which case your average caravan or marine battery will do fine. Get the biggest you can fit in.
A "true" deep cycle battery would be trashed if you tried to start an engine with it. They are also very expensive and specialised.
I have a pair of 110Ah 'marine' batteries to start my engines. They are the wrong type of battery for dedicated engine start batteries but they were on the boat when I got it. They have no problem starting my engines which are Thorneycroft 6 cylinder diesels. About 6.5 litters each.

Drive will need to be out of the water to change the gaiter and do the oil properly.

Can't help with the drive, but I suspect it will have to come out.
Are the batteries for engine starting or domestic???
