I've actually put in two pumps, one under the bow, where lots of water collects, the other just inside the transom. This may seem odd, but last winter there was only one pump, just by the door to the cabin, and it didn't fit conveniently and still wasn't very effective. This year - so far, so good.

The lowest point of the hull, actual position will depend on how the boat is loaded, a lot of the 18's seem to sit nose down.
