Hi all
Can anyone recommend where to pop a N23 in the water on the broads and some suitable routes/guides for a week or two on the broads. wife decided that we want to take our 23 there this summer? |

The railway at reedham? Thought that had long gone, I can never get past the ship.
If you like a nice walk through the woods the decoy tavern at fritton is one of the cheapest pubs on the broads and friendly too, moor at st.olaves BA mooring, get served much later than the bell too.

That is the one I mentioned.... just beware..... the access to the marina is down a VERY steep hill with a railway crossing at the bottom.... manual crossing gates which are shut more often than open.
The slip is self is also quite a steep one. Be very carful when launching as the boat will leave the trailer well before you think it will..... when we launched, it looked like the Cromer lifeboat!!!!

There is a great slip at NYA in Brundall.
In a week, try a trip up the Chet to Loddon/Chedgrave (eat at the Swan if you want a treat), then you can choose St Olaves Bell or Somerleyton, then head on to Oulton Broad for a Thursday (power noat racing most weeks - great viewing from the Yacht Station and good showers there too).
You can then head up to Beccles and on to Geldeston Locks Inn.
Back to the Yare via Reedham (try lunch at the Railway) and back past Brundall to Norwich.
Choices here for Coldham Hall opposite Brundall Marina, a bit further to Surlingham Ferry Inn or Watersedge in Bramerton.
Whitlingham Park is amazing for a good wander, or the City of Norwich itself.
That would be a busy week or so, but very do-able and lovely lazy two weeks.
Just my opinions, others will no doubt have their say.
Just take your time, don't worry too much about any plans (except maybe ride the tides through Reedham) and keep some cold ones and a cupasoup on board in case you find a great wild mooring!

He's got a point there.....
But theres some better pubs on the broads, and more of them.

From personal experience of both the Broads and the Fenland rivers if it is volume and diversity of wildlife and scenery you are looking for, you would be better off on the Gt Ouse, Cam, Old West system of rivers. It may be that there is so much activity on the Broads that the wildlife has taken to hiding.
On the Ouse we see endless quantities of your run of the mill ducks, geese and swans. But also an astonishing number of herons, great crested grebes and kingfishers. At certain times of the year there are a abundance of dragon and damsel fly's. Not just one sort, a wide variety, bright electric blue, dark velvety green, navy blue and the brown ones too. So many at times that the air is thick with them.
Despite the Broads logo being a dragon fly, I have rarely ever seen them on the Broads.
On top of all that, loads of FREE moorings.... Ely cathedral. Cambridge, fewer boats. Free water points and sewage disposal and almost no sailing boats getting in the way!!
AND.... DF is in Norfolk... there's a much better reason to stay away!!!!!

I'm told cruising the broads is buetiful, do you know of any good guides I can use to plan with, having never been in that neck of the woods don't know what expect |

There is a crappy slip at Wroxham broad. - not highly recommended.
There is a good, but steep slip at Brundal Bay marina. Large hill to negotiate to get to the marina, with railway crossing at the bottom. Doable, but with care.
Martham boatyard has a slip, but may be the wrong side of Potter Higham bridge...
There is a small slip by the Swan in Horning, but may not be deep enough for a cabin cruiser.
There is a bigger one next to Southgates on Lower Street, Horning, but it is directly off the road...
Other than that, it's boatyard and crane... I think....

If during the school holidays I would suggest the southern broads as it's much quieter.
Theres a free slip at cantley for public use, thorpe marina where I am probably have some mooring space spare and are cheap but have no real facilities, give them a bell on 01603 701100, confusingly they trade as wroxham marine but they are on the yare just off the A47 near norwich, very easy by road.
