Hi all,

Me and my dad have just been and bought our first boat norman 18.5, but have bought one as a project. (Will upload photos when I work out how too )
Hoping people on here can help with all our questions as we are complete novices to this.
Can anyone recommend places to buy parts and also looking at buying a canopy.

Take it to your local council weigh bridge there is usually
a small charge but it lets you know how you stand
the refuse depts. have them to weigh the lorries

Good luck with the project
one small detail watch your total weight I see your on
an un-braked trailer don't fall foul of the rozzers
you are only allowed 750Kg that includes the boat and trailer
Have it weighed before you start piling stuff into it

All windows taken out for refurb

It looks like we have an aftermarket windshield then because I am sure this is wooden.

Would love to upload pics but I don't know how to lol

Thats also the one referred to, the one on the cabin roof.(as opposed to the front cabin windows)
There were two types used on the normans, some were glass in an aluminium frame and some were rubber mounted glass in a grp moulding that fixed to the cabin roof.
The ali ones were the better option but I don't think they were used on the 18.5.

No the windscreen I refer to is the window that is located at the back of the boat that the driver or anyone else standing out the back of the boat would look through.
Again my apologies for the novice here ha ha

If the windscreen you refer to is the grp moulded one with plastic windows set into rubber - that was fixed at the sides where they overlapped the coach roof. It was simply screwed through the coach roof sides.

I've got a feeling the ali framed one was also fixed by the sides too but on that I'm not so sure.

Front windows perspex set into rubber - twisted in plane as you say, side windows on early ones were in an ali frame BUT the frame itself was set into rubber. Later ali frames were bolted through the grp moulding and had a cover trim on the inside hiding the cut edge of the fibre-glass moulding.

Again - early 18.5's often had a triple-wall roof moulding - making life fun for retro-fitting of a mast and cables!

The cost of boating is insignificant compared to costs of a young wife and two teenage kids!

Cheers Df.
Problem we have is that there are no rubber seals, just a rough cut piece of perspex bolted and silicone in.
But the weekend just gone we took out all the windows in the cabin and we are restoring the side windows which are ali frame and wanted to put the front back to original.
Makes sense in what you are saying because my dad did make the comment that the front windows aren't flat they have a curve in them so perspex would fit easier.
Do you know how to remove the windshield also?
And can anyone help with how to upload photos so I can show you are project
df Posted - 18 Feb 2014 : 17:15:26
If the front windows are held in with rubber they were plastic I think with glass used in the aluminium frames, I think the ali frames were only in the norman 20.
Sorry but can't remember how the screen was held on mine, I'm guess you have the grp moulding screen being an 18.5.

Thanks for the welcome.

OK so first couple of questions.
Removing off what we are calling the windshield, how is this fixed as it doesn't appear to have any fixings so we are wondering if this is glued on?
Secondly the front 2 windows, were these originally glass or perspex?
Thanks
