On a Norman 20 do I need a long shaft outboard or will a short shaft work?

ive had a 20 hp mercury 2 stroke on since I have owned the boat, recently put a 15hp 4 stroke on the difference in lower noise and better fuel consumption, get a four stroke if you can

If you are on the canal a 9.9hp is ideal. Many people have up to 15hp. Try to get 4 stroke if possible.

15hp 4 stroke will be ideal unless you fancy doing sea work.

What size engines are 20 owners using?

I have the chance of a 2 stroke Mercury 40hp but wonder if that's gonna be too big and will it run lumpy at the low speeds required.

I'll be using it on the river Trent.

Thanks everyone. I thought as much but wanted to check with the guys in the know. Typical really as I have a great 15hp Johnson short shaft with brand new gearbox that I use on my inflatable rib.

All Normans require long shaft motors as far as I know!
