You obviously never got stuck in a face to face conversation with him at a bar, now that was hard work!(and I did buy him a pint) That said yes a character for sure, the guy I palmed him off on called me a nasty name too...

He was a character for sure, but I actually had a real soft spot for him. He achieved things from nothing, master of recycling and the on-the-spot bodge and cheap fixes yet he managed in spite of near penury to keep boating on and really enjoyed himself.

Unfortunately he was also a very sensitive soul but capable of rubbing others totally up the wrong way and many on both here and that other plastic boat forum were understandably increasingly fed-up with him.

Eventually he left but for me at least both forums are the poorer for it on balance.

Good old Malcolm!!

The cost of boating is insignificant compared to costs of a young wife and two teenage kids!

Bearing in mind you're talking about the bloke that wanted to change a prop so tied his boat in bardney lock and let the water out and went under it in a dinghy......
Same said bloke got given a prop so fitted it and spent the next season in reverse as it was the wrong handed prop......
And I remember a conversation about having to fit a stiffer propshaft because the engine was moving about too much otherwise......
I won't use a proper description as this forum has a bad word filter, a similar filter messed up s c u n t horpe councils email system.
AKA The beast of bardney.

And I thought they'd stopped making "Last of the Summer Wine"!

There's a real cliff hanger at the end of part 3 as well.
