Posted - 01 Sep 2013 : 10:06:59 The day after I sold my Old engine, I went out to my boat and was worried when I saw the awning unzipped, and the seat over the engine disturbed. Fearing the worst for my New engine, I looked at the stern, but it was still there. I had padlocked the engine well, and also fitted a "Theft Reduction Cover" which may have deterred them as it makes the engine less re-saleable.

Very helpful owners - based in Norfolk - They even went and tried one of their standard covers on a similar engine in a Chandlers, to make sure it would fit OK. I take the rigid engine cover home with me, and just leave the flexible, waterproof cover on. However the Ba$tard5 had stolen my fuel tank and a 5-litre can of spare petrol. However when I spoke to another boat owner nearby, he told me that a few days earlier, he had seen an empty tank and green fuel can by the gate, and had hidden it out of sight. It was mine! So after reconnecting the tank - luckily the fuel hose and fittings were undamaged - I was able to refill the tank and had a good day's boating.
I plan to re-instate the fixed stainless steel fuel tank that was on the boat when I got it. I still worry every time I leave the boat though.

Posted - 03 Sep 2013 : 00:08:50 No wish it was, he's done a nice job on it. I was on plot 14, I moved the boat last Monday evening up to Inglesham, where depressingly we have also had problems with yobs from Lechlade comming up on old ex hire craft out of Lechlade marina and pinching Canoes/workboats and anything else that takes there fancy. Caught them going downstram last Sunday with a boat in tow not belonging to them. Called the police telling them where to intercept the sods. Didnt know when the could respond. Totally useless and a waste of time. So a mate and I went to the marina and 'sorted it out' when the perps turned up. Crazy |
