Hello all!
I recently purchased a norman 20 ,it came with a pre 1980s Honda bf75(b100) outboard ,i guess it that old going by the hood colours..

Anyway the boat is is fitted with remote steering ,i have learnt it is a MORSE d290 ,,,the cable is red and has morse 208777 4-50m written on the cable.
The problem is i brought the boat as is ,i know nothing about boats but i am learning fast,,,The telesopic arm of the morse cable was not attached to the motor,The problem is the arm seems to big to control the motor.it is a least 3-4 ins long to the right of the motor looking from the back...I am thinking this is the wrong morse teleflex /utraflex cable system for my HONDA ..The boat had a yamaha engine fitted 8 years ago going by the BSC.
I have looked at laods of link arms and clevis links ,Can anyone help? It is driving me nuts?

I will buy a new steering system to sort it ,but i need advice on which one will fit my Honda ,transom...

Thanks!

B75 is 7.5hp , B100 is 10hp.

Both are old school measurements & I cant remember if they are measured at the crank or prop so are either less or more powerful than the newer Honda motors.

That aside - they can still be a reliable lump, they do suffer from clogged water intakes on the dirty ditches (Canals).

Your morse steering arm may be usable if you move the clamp away from the motor or if its an adjustable clamp on the outer move the position.

These are just a few thoughts maybe wrong as I have started the weekend beer early (DF will be proud!) The position of yr honda will be the same as the yam motor - We went from inboard enfield drive to honda Bf15 without moving anything on the steering.

The arm is fully in,it cannot go back to the left any further,,,I have since discovered that there is an adjustment tube missing from the splashwell fitting.

I assumed the Honda 75 b100 model was a 10 hp engine ,,I am new to boats and outboards but a 75 hp engine would huge..!!!

I have also been informed that the red morse cable i have is now absolite,,so looks like a new complete steering system..this boat my larky is quite expensive hobbie..

Thanks for the replies folks!

I think a BF75 is a 4 horse power engine. Were you assuming it is 75 hp?

Hi, if it,so too long have you tried just turning the steering wheel right to bring the arm back?

That's a big outboard also make sure the transom is sound as the space between the grp skins which have a wooden sandwich are know to rot. Not a big issue with small river speed outboards but anything the size you have needs to be solid to support the weight.
