The kids have bought us a 12v air horn with a little compressor
for our Norman. Can anyone shed any light on how I go
About fitting it?

A compressor horn needs a pos and neg to the compressor, one of which needs to go through a switch - in this case the horn button. Pressing the horn button (push to make) completes the circuit to the compressor which starts and blows the horn.
Check the rating on the compressor - it'll tell you if it is 10a, 15a etc.
Or: It might tell you 150 watt, or 300 watt, so to get the amperage fuse divide the watts by the volts.
The cost of boating is insignificant compared to costs of a young wife and two teenage kids! |

5A is a little low for a compressor horn.
Try a 15A - That should be fine (I have seen some large ones rated at 30A tho !

Just two thoughts. Have you wired up the new horn correctly, i.e. positive to positive etc, and if so try a higher rated fuse. Best of luck. |

Got the horn fitted! Certainly looks better than the old one!
Only problem is the fuse blows each time the button is
pressed! I've checked all the connections and they seem
fine. It is a 5amp fuse. Can't see any rating on the horn
or compressor. Any ideas?

Should be fine - Clean up the wires on the old connection or trim back if possible (They are usually corroded & black!) If you have a multimeter check you are getting 12v on the connection when the button is pressed.
If the power is there its good to go !
Have to say - our horn is the main prob we have had, last time I rewired it I soldered the contacts & sealed with heat shrink tube & it was ok last season - hopefully its ok next time out (we havent loosed the ropes yet this yr  )

Just to add to the above..... The existing horn appears
to be wired directly to the control/fuse panel. Do I wire
The new horn compressor to this connection?

Yes there is a horn circuit there, with a push button on the dash.
It doesn't work though. The old horn has very corroded connections
which I intend to replace when the new one goes on. It is a
marine standard one. Weather permitting I'll have a go at
fitting it this weekend.

Fused through yr control panel via a push button.
You will probably already have a horn circuit so just replace the new horn where the old one was.
Presume the new air horn is of marine std & will withstand the elements ?
if you dont have a horn circuit , post back so we can advise
