Hi All

Wonder if anyone can give me some advice/ reasurance. The wife and I are discussing moving to Wiltshire as the kids have left school. Problem is I am not to sure where I can have a boat over that way? I know the Kennet and Avon canal is over there but whats it like for a Norman? We live near the Grand Union and I don't recall seeing any small cruisers. We are currently on the Gt Ouse.

We are looking at Shaftsbury sort of area.

Cheers

Hi Clive,
Re Kennet and Avon, Free launching slip in Devizes, nice cruising heading east towards Hungerford/Reading. Chap I met has a very nice and original Conquest in Devizes Marina dont know the costs as he works in the boat repairs workshop on the site. Cain Hill flight can get congested going west at certain times of the year. Big population of narrow boats in the area folks I spoke to at Pusey Wharf were very friendly (also has a slip but guy wanted Ten pound each way to use the slip). I eventually postponed the intended trip when I redesigned the front of the tow vehicle, oops!
Got the Thames at North Wiltshhire various moorings at Lechlade, Radcott and so on down stream.
I'm moored at Inglesham 1.5 mile above Lechlade Only a Freeman for company at the moment soon to be joined by a Shetland 18. Known this stretch of the river for 20 years never the same one week to the next and very peacefull. e-mail me if you fancy coming down for a Sunday, local pub also sells tea and I owe you a cup. no concrete elephants in Wiltshire, a few white horses and Shaftsbury, nice, has a river nearby but not sure how much is navigable (trout fishing country).

Hi Clive,
I took my Norman 20 that way a couple of years back and it was lovely. The kennet and Avon is lovely. Only problem is if you are close to Divizas you may be restricted one way for day cruising as the flight of locks can take hours to get through when busy.

Got some photos somewhere.
