Posted - 18 Feb 2013 : 12:57:44 Since completing my N20 "Silk Lady" refurb in November, i set out last weekend to make my longest journey up the Lanky Canal from my mooring in Garstang to Galgate. Everything was checked (or so i thought) before casting away, the weather was fine, food & drink in plentyful supply, and my best mate was with me for added support. The round trip would take us approx 5 hrs and all was going great until we were about 3 mile away from Galgate when i suddenly realised i hadn't checked the fuel level before leaving...jerk !
You guessed it !, we were running on fumes at this point and were well away from anywhere likely to resemble a Petrol Station. This is when the afore mentioned 'best mate' started to take advantage of my misfortune and proceeded to ring all our other mates and duly take the %#ss ... big time.
Anyway, we managed to reach civilisation and just as we sailed alongside the first boats in the Marina at Galgate...she gave up on me......what great timing !!!! We shouted over to some boaters and explained our situation, to which one guy said, the Petrol Staion is 1 mile away so jump in the car with me and i'll take you to it. Wow!...what a guy. 10 minutes later we were filled up so we had a Pub Lunch and a pint, then headed back home waving off our new boating buddies.
Morale of the story..... it's obvious......leave your best friend at home, just in case you cock up !!
