Posted - 05 Dec 2012 : 23:47:42 Recently talking to some one about our boat - He claimed to be from Shaw, & said there was a leisure centre on the site of an old boatyard in Shaw.
A quick google shows a leisure centre 'Norman Leisure Centre' in Shaw
Coincidence ??????

Posted - 26 Apr 2018 : 19:37:53 Old post I'm commenting on here but as a newcomer to the forum, I am busy checking out all the old posts for vital information! I live a 15 min walk from the old Norman factory in Shaw and it is indeed a leisure centre these days. It used to be called Norman Leisure but these days it is Tara Leisure and is a venue with a gym, snooker hall, concert venue etc. |

Posted - 06 Dec 2012 : 22:38:23 I'd say it's almost certainly the same place. It was definitely on the same road (Grains Road, Shaw), according to the brief history page on this website. Also, this photo on there claims to be outside the Grains Road factory:

Which looks very much like this building (albeit with a rendered front and a tin roof:

If you look closely that drain grate is in the same position in both pictures. The place doesn't appear to be called Norman Leisure Centre any more though, looks like it's had a couple of name changes. |
