Posted - 25 Nov 2012 : 18:01:47 Hi everyone,
I am posting this here rather than the section entitled "New Website" as no one seems to post there now.
I have been trying to find out since May when we will be able to register our boats on the website (The link still returns with the error message about the site being updated etc etc)and upload pictures.
Can anyone sort this out? Cheers, Nige (White Star, Norman 27) |

Posted - 26 Nov 2012 : 13:55:33 Trevor my thoughts on the matter are that it would be nice to have the system fully running and Normans being registered so we recognize other people when out on the river but the questions and answers part that is still working is worth its weight in gold and this is all down to your hard work (and DF's constructive criticism!) please don't lose this part of the site as it has helped hundreds of boaters with thousands of problems. |

Posted - 25 Nov 2012 : 21:03:00 How about biting the bullet and restarting the forum from scratch, on a modern/supported platform that makes it future proof? Draw a line under the existing one, as it may never be possible to migrate it over. It will almost certainly be possible to keep it hosted as an archive (like an another 'lost forum', but complete and browseable), which I'm sure we all agree is that it's important not to loose stuff completely. |

Posted - 25 Nov 2012 : 19:59:38 Its a whole bunch of circumstances Nige. First off the changes the host made mean I don't have a form submission system any more. Next, I built the site as a complete novice using a now defunct web authoring software package. I am not really very much advanced from that novice stage either. Next, this forum uses a weird and again defunct'ish software package that very few hosts support so I can't simply change hosts. I think you will agree that the forum is the best and most stable part of this whole Norman internet presence and we don't want to risk losing it. (again?? Shut up flinty!) Next, I thought and possibly we all thought, that we had a solution via an offer to completely rebuild the site. Seems i may have been let down on that score even though it was a massive ask in the first place. The website as it is has become so huge that it would be an absolute mammoth task to convert page by page. Finally, at the moment there is a combination of the size of the task, haven't got the time and half arsed can't be bothered to be totally honest. I will try and figure something out eventually!
