Has any one experience in buying and fitting a calorifier. IE size,cost,best one to buy,how long does it take to heat from cold from the heat of the engine,protecting from frost,any problems exsperienced etc.Once my boat is on the water we plan to spend a lot of time on it and do as much of the inland waterways as possible |

I have a 30 litre surecal and it's warming up after 15 minutes of running, mine is a twin coil so I can run on either engine and still have hot water, makes for a great shower.
I got mine off ebay from surecal with all the fittings and immersion element, they sell off display ones cheaper.

Surecal seem to be the best. Size depends on where you can fit it in. From an inboard you will have hot water after 15mins running stays warm overnight as the tanks are insulated. very easy to fit. Make sure hot outlet is rotated to the top of the calorifier that way should you run out of cold water the calorifier will still have holding water. You should fit an expansion tank onto the hot outlet to allow for expansion.
Drain down tank in winter,the sealed curcuit will have antifreeze in so should be protected.
Don't take life too serious, it's not permanent |
