Hi All,
New to this boating lark so please bare with me.
We ,on impulse bought a norman 20 which we are very happy with,it has a yamaha 9.9 that has seen better days but still get's us from AtoB.At some stage i feel it will have to be changed for a secondhand unit, can i fit any longshaft engine(9.9-20hp range)also can an engine be converted to start on a switch instead of a pull cord...will my present cables work or be adapted to work with any other engine or are they specific to the yahama,I'm just worried about spending my hard earned cash on something totally unsuitable.
All advice much appreciated...Glenn

Hi and welcome aboard, for a 20 anything from around 9 up to 20hp long shaft is fine for river use.
Think it would not be cost effective to convert an outboard to electric start so best to try and find one fitted from new.
The steering connections shouldn't be a problem but the gear and speed Teleflex cables do differ from outboard manufactures and cost around £20 each.
