Posted - 09 Aug 2012 : 18:58:04 Having just read all the horror stories about first trips, I am just a little nervous, now. We have just spent several months and even severaler pounds refitting "Watersplash" (thats what it is called)to suit us we are off on our first major trip. Two weeks around the shorter Leicester ring. We have replaced just about everything, gas system, water system and electrics, the original was not up to much even though it had a boat safety until Oct 2013.So, new cooker, sink, water heater, warm air heater, cushion covers, curtains, floor and carpets and she looks pretty good now and we are looking forward to our trip. Hopefully we will have less trouble than some of you guys seem to have experienced. Hoping to put some pictures up when we get back. Be in touch in 2 weeks. |

Posted - 10 Aug 2012 : 13:34:20 Goodluck. There's lot of potential for teething troubles with all that new kit, take a basic tool kit and you should be fine though. It's not like you're going out to sea on it (this time).
I did the Leicester ring in under 7 days in a hired sewer tube some years ago. We were moving dawn till dusk though, pretty much without stopping during the day. |

Two weeks is a nice easy going trip in a cruiser around the ring (My sons & myself always fancied trying to mammoth it in 4 super long days but we never did !!)
We first did it 9yrs ago & completed in 9 days cruising with a callumcraft, mooring up early on quite a few days, we also did it in 7 in Dads Sewertube a few yrs ago - two weeks will give you chance to take it easy !!!
Which way are you going ? I would recommend heading through Leicester first, Have a longish first day & Head for Kilby Bridge (I have single handed from Syston to Kilby in 7-8 hrs) this gets Leicester out of the way & after that its the best ! (It also means you will be going down the Widebeam T&M locks from Stenson to Derwent mouth where you can be sharing with Hirecraft (The paddles are fierce on those locks uphill & sometimes the 'Sewertubes' cant manage their ropes!)
From Memory & with two weeks I would think of the following
Day 1 - Kilby Bridge Day 2 - Somewhere around Saddington Day 3 - Above Foxton Day 4 - Below Watford Flight & Braunstone Tunnel Day 5 - Rugby Day 6 - Sutton Stop Day 7 - Hartshill Day 8 - Polesworth Day 9 - Fradley Day 10 - Fradley (Stay for Pub & Showers !) Or head for Alrewas its lovely ! Day 11 - Stenson Day 12 - Sawley Day 13 - Zouch (Rose & Crown) Day 14 - Home
Just a few thoughts on nice stopping places !!! Hard for me to try & plan a 150 mile / 101 lock trip in 14 days as we are a little more manic !
If you are heading the other way (Towards the Trent - We will be out Fri from 2.30 & will be at Trent lock Fri night)
Edit - Of course you are welcome to join us if you have fixed those nice shiny badges on yr hull!
