All,
Please please look at this! The BSS have just published their review of the proposed changes to your BSS examination. As your 'friendly' examiner and member of this forum I encourage you all to study these proposals and contact me, as the secretary, through the NABSE website, not on here, with your thoughts and feelings. NABSE are preparing a submission but need your thoughts. My personal feeling is that many of your cherished craft will fail !!! I will check this site for comments and, if you don't mind, may contact you directly to make sure we have your view properly represented.

We (the examiners) would love to know too! The BSS 'office' have been very scant on why some of this is changing. We believe it could add maybe upto an hour to an average examination and, of course, we would need to pass that cost onto 'you' the poor boater! My organisation (NABSE) are trying to stimulate debate because the BSS is now not BW but under the Canal and River Trust (CRT) and that is a private business! So if you, us, we boaters ain't happy - complain! Its not a government body anymore. Unfortunately you poor souls on EA, Thames, Medway & Scottish waterways are still, for a couple more years, separate from the CRT but the BSS, and its changes will still apply to you.

I'd love to know whether the changes are being driven by real-world safety incidents or whether the changes are just providing more opportunities for us to be fleeced...

Please excuse my 'Lazyness' for not reading all of it - Is there any major changes in the LPG regs that immediately spring to mind ? (We only have a old calor cooker (OEM fitment))

Hi all,
My reason for believing more boats will fail is due mainly to the changes to the electrical section and a tightening of parts of the LPG checks. Please bear in mind these changes will apply to all private boats regardless of age. 'Advice' failure points still allow a certificate to be issued but the belief is the insurers will not, in future, accept any boat with an 'Advice warning notice in force against a boat.
And, if you dont declare you have one your insurance is likely to be invalid anyway

As far as I can see the only issue to me is what the examiner considers as a'distribution board', my shore power goes through fused spurs with immersion heater being a switched spur, I guess I may have to fit an rcd in the line but thats no great hardship.
