Hi all, been away a while (due to old age creeping up on me lol), but now back to pick at your collective knowledge. But on the plus side my Norman 23 now has a lovely new BSS.
I need to know if anyone can tell me the rough price of having my old Yamaha 9.9 engine serviced. I'm based at Sawley and I wondered if anybody had used JBJ Marine, who are based there.
Secondly how difficult on the 'dumbness scale' is it to replace my steering system, and does anyone have any recommendations on which is the best one to get.
Over to You.

Cheers, Roger

I replaced my steering system on the Conquest this weekend.

From drilling new holes in the cockpit bulkhead for the new helm possition and fitting it, routeing the cable through, drilling and fitting the splashwell mounting fitting the engine link it took just under 3 hours including tea, beer and pontificating breaks.

I got a Teleflex system to suit up to 55 h.p. from Nautequipe Marine (stevetheboat) in Kidderminster for £99.00 (I collected it from their place). Type 'Teleflex' onto the e-bay search and they will come up.

The sizing guide was spot on, I also send them a copy of all my calculations to double check.
Communication with them was a little wanting and I had to call them/e-mail a couple of times to chase things along.

All in all well chuffed and another step nearer completeing the rebuild.

Hope that helps,

Ken

Not too hard if like - for like in type and Teleflex make the best all round.

Make sure you get the right cable length and no sharp bends permitted.

If outboard under 40hp you'll not need a heavy duty one. Most Normans used a light duty system.

I don't think the original fit straight rack system is available now although you can I believe still get cables for it.

The cost of boating is insignificant compared to costs of a young wife and two teenage kids!
