Posted - 09 Jun 2012 : 00:03:22 One of our major Trip plans is crossing the pennines this yr via the Rochdale.
Canal Plan gives it as this ...
Canal Plan Guidelines............
This is calculated based on 4 full days travelling starting at Sowerby Bridge Junction.
Each full day will be approximately 7 hours and 57 minutes travelling. First day of trip On the Rochdale Canal, at Shade Lock No 21 (just past Todmorden Lock No 19 ). This is 10 miles, 3¼ furlongs and 19 locks and will take 7 hours 57 minutes. Second day of trip On the Rochdale Canal, at Windy Bank Bridge . This is 4 miles, 5¼ furlongs and 26 locks and will take 7 hours 57 minutes. Third day of trip On the Rochdale Canal, at Oldham Broadway Bridge Winding Hole (a third of the way between Boarshaw Lock No 60 and Ducie Street Junction). This is 10 miles, 1¼ furlongs and 18 locks and will take 7 hours 58 minutes. Fourth day of trip On the Bridgewater Canal (Main Line), at Castlefield Junction . This is 6 miles, 6½ furlongs and 29 locks and will take 7 hours 57 minutes.
It has been suggested on 'ANALWORLD' that this isnt possible !! Of course they don't know us
Any comments on if we can make the passage in this time (Taking into account booked passage thru locks)

Adi the Ashton flight should be started first thing in the morning and getting to the top lock going straight through, no stopping for lunch or scenery As with towns now lots of youngsters with nothing to do but cause a bit of bother.
Thats pretty much what we thought Lester - However with many cities we have encountered , talking & offering the odd cigg to the youths works wonders ! - We had a group help us down the locks in brum a few yrs ago who said 'Hey yr sound mate - we usually throw stones at the barges !!)

Posted - 17 Aug 2012 : 12:02:11 probably far too late to answer this but our Norman 32 Ayup Miduck was brought home from whitely bridge (great heck) via aire and calder/calder and hebble/rochdale to preston brook on the bridgewater in a trip from Sunday noon to the following Saturday evening, so I would say yes it can be done, bearing in mind lock 65 to 83 may still be a booked thing only unlocked from 0830 to 1600..we had no time to take it easy as Ste had to be back at work on the Monday..maybe you've done it by now lol Pam
