Wayfoot	Posted - 11 Oct 2011 : 22:02:33 I am in the process of renovating my Norman 20 (Silk Lady) and i have recently removed and stripped down the sliding window & circular window frames.They have cleaned up well with the exception of the connecting flat bar strips that hold the two half frames together.The previous owner certainly did not use Stainless Steel or Brass. Can anyone advise where i can buy replacement flat bar of this section size 1/4" x 1/8"...yes its imperial... Whilst i have rung all the local Stainless Steel stockists, they dont cater for the small section sizes and wondered if i can buy this "off the shelf" anywhere. Thanks in anticipation

I have since received my brass bar (it looks just the business) and started to drill & tap the threads, i am using a 3.5mm tap with a 2.5mm HSS drill bit all looks good at the moment.
lezz50	Posted - 18 Oct 2011 : 14:17:50 Hello Wayfoot, I my self am renovating a norman 20 all windows have been striped down cleaned fitted back together with all new rubber seals, the flat bar which holds frames together was replaced with aliminum and riveted together. One thing i will ask you is, on the inside does your frames have a finishing strip which is screwed to frame? if yes seal all holes up as frame will still leak, the angle of frame in cabin allows water to sit in channel instead of seeping out on the out side through drain holes it comes in cabin as holes are lower. I have seen 5 norman 20s all with same problem 2 lads have sealed the sliding window up to stop drips and put vents in cabin roof. Thanks any way
Deano	Posted - 13 Oct 2011 : 09:09:46 I find ebay is a great source of small quantities of odd sized brass. Search for "model engineering brass" and it is amazing what you can get. OK the price is higher than a metal stockist, but you don't want to buy 4 meters of the stuff!!! Dean - Boating on the Great Ouse. Since posting this i have come across a company that specialises in small section metals (including the section i need). http://www.metalsmith.co.uk/metals-materials.htm They are predominantly a model makers component supplier but offer a huge range of metals...including :- B250/125 Brass flat, 1/4 x 1/8 x 24in. (6,35 x 3,2 x 610mm) �2.85ea. The minimum order value is �10 I am waiting for a reply to my order and with a bit of luck...problem solved.
df	Posted - 12 Oct 2011 : 07:37:26 Find a local company that uses stainless of a decent thickness and get them to chop a strip off the edge of a sheet for you, I've always found most smaller companies will help out if you just wander straight into the workshop and talk to the workers instead of going through the proper channels. stratford4528	Posted - 12 Oct 2011 : 06:52:27 My 32 has steel bars I believe they were original fitment I am going to clean mine and paint with hammerite also I'm going to drill and re tap and fit other screws because the brass screws would not come out.
