Hello all ... Just purchased 1st boat and need to get it anti-fouled as it hasn't been done in ages! Would you advise a best time of year for this? Now or after the worst of the winter. Thanks in advance for any advice. |

If the haul out and wash is not costing much then I would give it a blast off to get rid of the worst if it is bad, but if you are paying commercial rates I would leave it 'till the spring.
I took mine out in spring for a jet wash and the waterline still looked sound from the previous year, very minimal growth. So I did nothing. I took a brush round under the water on the sunny side of the mooring a week ago and there was a little green slime that all came off easily. If it all jet washes of in the spring again, I may be tempted to do nothing again!!! But then again I am a lazy git!!
My lift outs cost nothing so there is no excuse really!!!
Fresh water antifoul should last a few years depending where you are. Boating costs enough as it is without painting £50 worth of paint unnecessarily on the bottom every year.
That's a good night out and 't tram fare 'ome where I'm from!!!

Thanks for your reply. The boat will remain in the water over winter, ideally I was looking at a pressure wash, anti-fouling and a full pollish but didn't want to go to all the expense pre winter if it would have a detrimental effect? What would others do this time of year if the boat really needed a good clean? |

It depends if it's on a trailor/land or in the water over winter, either way you won't get that much growth over winter, do it in spring after a good pressure wash.
