The existing timber strakes are pretty much past their sell-buy date so looking to replace these. Oraoco (teak) seems to be a popular choice but my question is whether a section of around 30mm height by 20mm depth will readily follow the hull bend towards the bows without having to steam the timber.
Alternatively, does anyone know of a source of pre-made strakes?

yes it bent round with no steaming and i used ss nuts and bolts with penney washers on inside ,i bored into the face with flat bit about 1/2" deep then used small washers on the outside then used pellets to fill the holes sand off flush then varnish and it looks good , then i ran Tiger seal all round the edges to stop water getting behind Dave

Did your ash requiring any form of steaming or was it flexible enough to follow the hull?

I've been looking at trying out teak mouldings at 25mm x 18mm are laminating a couple of these together. At 99p per foot, I reckon on needing a little over 150 feet which comes out substantially cheaper than other alternatives. I have never worked with teak and wonder whether it will be flexible enough to curve around the front part of the hull. I wondered if ramin would fit the bill as this is available in quite thin sections which I could laminate together easily? |

Thanks for your replies. As a matter of interest, are the strakes attached using machine screws (bolts)? I assume a fair amount of internal panelling need to come off if they are. |

Hello i have just replaced my rub streaks using 3 x 1 1/4 ash home grown and bent to the shape good ,look at Willow on the way into the site . Dave

Cut thin strips which will bend and glue them together as you bend them into position. I am going to use Jara on my 32 which I will cut from a SH railway sleeper. Its that dense even the creosote that they pickle them with does not soak in. |
