Thinking of buying a portable power pack on the lines of the one in link below. Might come in handy for overnight stays if main battery drains. Can you do any harm to a small outboards circuits if these are used to boost the main battery for starting purposes ?

Thanks for offer Chris but now sorted with one of the bigger Halford ones, will come in handy for a jump starter for cars if needed as well. |

Hi Knighty,
I just bought a job lot of those off eBay as retail returns just for the batteries (cheaper than buying batteries individually!!!) for my solar project they are 17ah, but do have 3 switched cigarette power outputs and you can charge them from the car or I have one connected direct to a solar panel, the lights are pretty useless and I would be tempted to replace them with led bulbs, the compressor wouldn't blow the skin off a rice pudding but ou wouldn't that anyway. They cost me £15 each you are quite welcome to one at that price.

This might be of interest to some of you. It does not have the Amp-Hour capacity of the Halfords one listed previously, but seems good value and has facility to run 12 volt accessories.

Does the tv have an external power supply? If so you should be able to substitute it with a 12v adaptor that will be far more efficient, the inverter should be ok as using good old "ivy watts" 6a x 12v would be 72 watts, allowing for the inefficiecies in the inverter you may get 2/3 hours out of a power pack, which you can then recharge at home or from cigarette adaptor in the car.
I have a tescos 16 inch led tv with DVD, unbelievably power efficient, runs directly of 12v and only £88 online
This is the power pack I got off eBay, really good.

Hi all,
I've just bought a tv that draws 6amps. Don't fancy running it off my single battery so just use on hook up at present. Would this powerpack linked above be worth having to power the tv when not at the marina with a view to charging it when back on hook up?

Thanks for replies, the Ring one from Halfords looks good with a 40ah battery as well for £119, cheapest i could find on the net as well. Bit baulky but will come in hand at home as well.

Knighty, I bought a similar one of eBay, which turned out to be a halfords return unit, absolutely brilliant, and the beauty is that you can run all sorts of stuff off them when on board, lighting, charge the phone and if you don't have a 12v adaptor for the laptop/iPhone/ipad etc you can run the mains charger off the inverter and then just recharge the unit from the car cigarette lighter, solar panels or when you get home.
Whichever one you opt for though, check that you can get access to the internal battery to change it, that way when the battery gives up the ghost in years to come you can just replace it.

You won't do any harm using one of those, don't connect it while the motors running though or it might damage the voltage regulator, disconnecting should be ok.
