Norman 23. I am in the process of installing a BSS compliant Gas Hob/Grill to replace the existing old one, and am also renewing all flexible hoses and some suspect copper pipe. The Flexible hose from the Gas Bottle on the stern goes to fitting mounted on the side of the engine bay. Is this likely to be just a fancy "Elbow" or does it perform some other function? (See below)

The 2nd picture is a bit of a puzzler. In the first pic it looked as though the fitting was bolted to the side of the outboard well, with a piece of flexi tube going round to the back of the boat - I assumed to the bottle in an external frame, and a piece going up, I assumed to the rigid system. No problem as if it is all in the well any leaks would drain overboard.
However, the 2nd pic seems to show a rigid pipe disappearing through the side of the well and one wandering off round the corner. What I would have expected is a bulkhead fitting into the gas bottle locker, which I assume you have, or a sleeved route for the rigid pipe into the locker, terminating in that anchorage fitting to which is connected the flexi from the regulator on the bottle. Your pipework seems to connect outside the locker from what I now see when all it needed was for the copper to enter the locker and be anchored at the termination elbow (the thing you first asked about) onto which was a flexi and regulator. Perhaps you need to consider re-routing things? Also, a rigid pipe passing unprotected/un-sleeved through a hole in glass fibre is likely to cause the BSS man some concerns as well.

Think I would def replace the flexi !!
But personally would go for a flexi from the bottle to a new skin fitting thru the hull , less joints less leaks etc

Thanks to all as always - I thought Clive would recognise it! This is another view. I will leave it in place and just replace the flexible hoses.

Standard bulkhead anchorage fitting, normally on bigger craft mounted inside the gas locker, takes rigid copper at one end (which is why it has to be anchored) and the flexi to a regulator or in some cases the regulator itself direct coupled with a flexi to the bottle(s)
Fairly old I'd say, circa 70's - 80's. Nothing wrong with it and good to incorporate/retain.

Looks like a 'Fancy Elbow' to me! (Although looking again it also has the 'tap' look about it too - although no sign of where to turn off !)
Ours comes off the stern mounted bottle on reinforced flexi , onto a skin fitting thru the transom then copper all the way.
