Having just yesterday purchased my first boat, a Norman 20, I now need to set about getting it in the water - it's been out for 25 years!
First job is to make it watertight, as the roof hatch seal is cracked, dry and brittle. I've had a look around the seal direct website, but can't work out what seal is required! The seal goes around the outside of the moving part of the hatch, is about 30mm wide, and sits inside a track in the same plane as the hatch. Does anyone know which seal I should be looking at to replace this?
I intend this week to spend some evenings tracing the wiring and working out what's good and what's not, with a view to getting a battery or two sorted, the outboard attached, and a full check up of its current health.
I'm quite happy with electrics, and have found some great info on this site, but if there's anyone in my area (Surrey / Hants / Berks borders) with a 20 who wouldn't mind me coming to take a look, that would be great.
On another side note, the main cabin floor seems very flexible between the kitchen and the toilet / cupboard - is this normal?? It seems to be fibreglass, so I don't know how one would go about taking it up to have a look.

Oh i see what you mean now, must have been aftermarket fitted as don't think 20's had a houdini as standard. |

Hi Knighty.
The hatch is in the middle of the roof. The boat that I bought is still listed in the for sale section, the one in a barn with the red tonneau. One of the photo's is of the roof of the cabin, and the hatch is there. I guess it's similar to a Houdini type hatch, but as a skylight rather than on the bows.

On my 20 that is also the only bit of floor that feels a bit flexy as well.
Unsure which hatch you mean, is it the section about 30" x 24" that slots in above the cabin door ? If so mine is on an alloy sliding track with a rubber seal which looks like is intended more to make it a comfy fit more than seal it as the main canopy covers that hatch normally so doesn't need to be watertight on mine |

I'm Surrey/Hants/Berks Borders with two Norman 20's, well, actually one is an 18.5, and I've been rebuilding one and re-doing the other. Both are in Sandhurst at my place.
You can mail me for a contact number if you wish - or send me yours by mail. Don't put anything like that on the forum though.
The cost of boating is insignificant compared to costs of a young wife and two teenage kids! |

good choice great fun ahead for you, the floor area in my 20 is also like yours i have a ply floor over the top with vinyl glued to it |
