Hi everyone , my 1st post so be gentle . Anywho ive just purchased my 1st boat a Norman 20, although she is in pretty good shape the bulk head panels have a few unsightly drill holes so i would like to replace them , so my question is, are templates or blueprints available for this boat. Thanks sonny , thats very helpfull , i too have found that the bottom of the bulkheads were nver sealed. |

Hi Nipper
I have just done lots of the same thing and although its hard work I have replaced or sanded back to wood and re varnished everything inside and out on our Norman 20 "HILO" and it is worth it, the only thing you must do is make sure you seal the edges well with either silicon sealer or varnish . the biggest problem I found was that the main bulkheads were put in and then varnished so that the bottom of the wood was in a slot moulded into the floor and was the only bare wood and the only bit in water so rotted away very quickly. all the best with your boat and I hope you enjoy the finished job. |

Well i managed to get the toilet wall out today (1" chipboard?) however the fibreglass stayed in place ( bonus) so i managed to use it as a template, new 12mm varnished ply going in tomorrow. Ive now decided to replace all the ply , a long old job i know but it will look great when done. |

I had a few unwanted small holes in the bulk head and in the cabin. Rather than try and fill them which i thought would have looked messy i just either put in nice headed screws or screws with the button head plastic dome caps and a few screw in hooks to hang keys,coats etc and covered a bigger hole with a folding can holder so it looks sort of like they have a purpose...or not  |

Hi and welcome.
I seriously doubt templates are available - can't you use the old ones as patterns?
You must love work! Why not fill and colour in the holes? Most old boats will have unwanted holes in bulkheads and you are in for a lot of work to glass the new ones back in properly - they do act as stiffeners to the hull and superstructure,
The cost of boating is insignificant compared to costs of a young wife and two teenage kids! |
