HI all
My outboard failed to start while cruising luckily I was close to my mooring and got towed home. I not investigated the outboard failure yet. I have small outboard which I wish to fit as a back up. Has anyone fitted and adjustable outboard mount to their 23 ft Norman any advice is helpful

Hi all
At last outboard repaired ignition exciter coil replaced serviced cleaned and polished looks great outboard to be fitted today .The time down has not been wasted back up outboard fitted. There were some black satins on the wood, toilet, and deck. Old warmish removed bleached, stained and varnished such an improvement, not so much work with a good wood scraper and detail sander well worth the effort. I will i do the rest of the boat some time

ive got one off those aux mounts on my 20, with a seagull engine sat on it, got me home 4 locks on the thames, when my main engine was playing up |

Hope this helps ... it finishes at 16.55 tomorrow (Weds).
I have a mount on my 20 ... just don't (yet) have the motor to go on it !!!

The average new price is £85-£100 but you might pick up a S/hand one.
Back it up inside the transom with a large piece of 18mm plywood at least.
The cost of boating is insignificant compared to costs of a young wife and two teenage kids! |

Mine steers well enough to get you away with a rudder on the main outboard.
Not as good as the main engine but it gets you out of trouble.

Hi all
I am a cheap skate joking aside I broke down opposite £ 1,000,000 + properties he swam across the Thames and offered to tow the boat across the river to his house with fags ,food, wine until the recovery of the boat as he had no boat, interesting How long could I stay . You do not meet people who will help a man 60 +. All credit to the yanks .Full report will follow. It is nice to see humanity in action. I have rudder steer fitted to my main outboard

Hi Peter, have you thought of connecting the aux engine to the main engine so you can steer from the helm. they seem to do this a lot in the states and two connecting link i found are called stearns motor link and goldeneye auxillary link steering. via google. This can be cut and bent to suit and both engines can be tilted. all you need is another remote and cables so you can control the aux outboard from the helm. you will possibly need a conversion kit if your aux outboard is tiller steer. Do remember that if you deploy the reserve due to failure of the main engine you will have very little steering as the direction control comes from the thrust from the prop, not the rudder effect of the leg. Having an able assistant to hang off the back to control the engine is a workable solution. But not too god for close quarters manoeuvring.
I have a mate who had to do that for 3 days to get back to his marina when his engine blew up. -

Hi Pete,
My 23 has an auxiliary mounted on one.
It works a treat, mounted out of the way on the port side.
It just drops down easily when needed.
I use it to power the boat and occasionally have for extra power in flood conditions.
The main engine does the steering.
Maybe you will want to post for advice on your main engine if you get stuck.
